David Arquette went down a rough road after he and Courteney Cox decided to take a trial separation after 11 years of marriage. But the man who was once drinking heavily and partying all night for weeks on end is gone, and a sober, more-focused Arquette has emerged.
"I went through a really hard time, and my way of dealing with it was just to blow it all up," the Scream 4 star, 39, told People.com on Saturday. "I did act childish(ly), but at the same time I had to -- I was really hurt. It was hard for me to deal with this, but what I had to do ultimately was step back and take a look at myself."
After ranting and raving to Howard Stern on the radio and drowning his sorrows in alcohol, the rehabbed actor says he's learning how to deal with his troubles in a much healthier manner.
"I'm really getting in touch with my feelings and trying to process them in a more appropriate way," Arquette explained. "It's easy to numb them, but it's more fulfilling to feel them. I don't have a desire to drink."
Now, Arquette is becoming introspective and is determined to discover what he really needs to be happy.
"My big deal is me starting to look at who I really am," says Arquette. "I was living up to ideals that weren't necessarily who I am. What am I good with? What makes sense for me? Where's my true voice? I'm still learning."
It's great to hear that the actor is learning to deal with his problems in a more constructive way. We just hope he can manage to stay on the right road, even if he and Cox can't work out their differences.
