'Teen Mom' Star PSA: "We Should Have Cuddled Instead!"

'Teen Mom' Star PSA: "We Should Have Cuddled Instead!"

The stars of MTV's Teen Mom want to make it clear that -- despite their fame and adorable kids -- they would do it all differently if they could. In a new public service announcement (watch below), Amber Portwood, Catelynn Lowell, Farrah Abraham and Maci Bookout share their regrets about having unprotected sex.

It's a little heartbreaking. "The night that I got pregnant, I wish that me and my boyfriend were cuddling and watching a movie," Catelynn admits. Farrah, too, regrets "going all the way" when "cuddling is better." And Maci wishes that "we would have used protection." The reality stars urge viewers to get more information via MTV's sex education website, ItsYourSexLife.org.

The PSA may be intended, in part, to downplay accusations that Teen Mom glamorizes teen pregnancy. On Tuesday, Dr. Mehmet Oz brought Bookout and Teen Mom 2 star Kailynn Lowry and Leah Messer -- plus their young kids -- onto The Doctor Oz Show to discuss whether Teen Mom has made it more appealing for teens to be mothers. All three mothers, in between trying to calm and quiet their children, denied speaking to the tabloids and using the show for personal profit.

"We didn't choose to be celebrities," said Bookout. "We're just trying to share what it's really like."

The show's creator, Lauren Dogan, says that Teen Mom isn't glorifying teen pregnancy -- it's just making people talk about it openly for the first time.

"What the show has done is open up a conversation that has not happened before," says Dogan. "This is an epidemic that's preventable, and we can learn from these girls' stories."

Still, Dr. Oz asked some hard questions about whether the show is making teens more "comfortable" with the idea of pregnancy. But with one in six teenage American girls having babies, these are important conversations to have -- and maybe Teen Mom is helping us have them. Either way, the show's not going anywhere: Teen Mom returns for its third season on July 5, and MTV announced on Wednesday that Teen Mom has already been renewed for a fourth season.
